What are Porcelain Veneers?

/

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth to mask the look of dental imperfections. While they transform the aesthetics of your smile, they don't change the function and health of your teeth and gums.

Dr. Buono is the best! His office and staff are amazing. Their attention to detail is like no other and they always make me feel comfortable. I have always been squeamish and hated the dentist until I started coming to this office. Dr. Bueno did my veneers 3 years ago and has been maintaining them ever since. They came out amazing and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Love my smile!

Take a Look at How Dental Veneers are Placed

Our dental office in Long Island, NY, uses minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to keep your natural tooth intact and the veneer looking natural.

A veneer is placed on the front surface of the tooth with dental cement.

We Can Provide Previews of Your Veneers Results

digital dental scanning device

Dr. Buono utilizes advanced technologies throughout all of his cosmetic dentistry treatments. In fact, his practice was the first ever to implement the Cadent iTero 3D Scanner. This put Garden City Smiles on the forefront of dental imaging. Dr. Buono has remained at the cutting-edge by adopting the upgraded iTero Element.

When it comes to veneers treatment, Dr. Buono uses custom blueprinting or diagnostic wax-ups to design your new smile. We also use advanced blueprinting to create your temporary veneers. This allows you to provide feedback about your new smile before your lab-crafted porcelain restorations are complete. Doing so allows us to ensure proper function and aesthetics prior to final placement of your veneers.

Our Process of Placing Veneers

Dr. Buono has a keen aesthetic eye and advanced technical skills, enabling him to place the dental veneers properly and shape and shade them to produce a luminous result.

Start Treatment With a Consultation

Begin your treatment with a free consultation with Dr. Buono. He'll make sure your teeth and gums are in good health and that you qualify for veneers. If everything looks good, he'll move on to placing your temporary veneers.

Temporary Placement to Perfect Your Smile

During your first appointment, Dr. Buono will examine and prep the teeth for veneers by gently removing the top layer of enamel. This provides space for the prosthetic and prepares the tooth's surface for the bonding material. He will then use an intraoral scanner to take a digital impression of the teeth.

Waiting for Lab Work

Your digital impressions will be sent to a lab and referenced during the creation of the veneers to ensure a natural fit. While the veneers are being fabricated in a dental laboratory, temporary dental veneers will be placed.

Permanent Placement of Veneers

Once the porcelain veneers have been created, the patient can return to our Long Island, NY, practice to have them permanently bonded to the teeth.

Veneers Recovery Is Simple

Some patients avoid dental care because they worry about long, drawn-out recovery periods. This concern doesn't apply to porcelain veneers. You will be able to resume your day immediately after veneers placement at our Long Island office and begin enjoying your results.

Right away, you will be able to chew and carry out other oral functions just like normal. Some patients experience temporary oral sensitivity, which can be effectively treated with over-the-counter medication recommended by Dr. Buono.

What Makes a Great Veneers Candidate?

Most people are great candidates for porcelain veneers. When determining your candidacy, Dr. Buono will assess your:

Current Health

Your teeth, gums, and bone structure are the foundation of a healthy mouth. In the event you are suffering from oral health issues, Dr. Buono will need to treat these before proceeding with veneers. This gives the veneers consultation the added benefit of occasionally identifying dental problems patients were unaware of.

Existing Enamel

The placement of veneers requires our dentist to remove a small layer of enamel from your teeth. If you do not have enough enamel, this procedure may not work for you. The good news is that Dr. Buono offers a host of cosmetic dentistry solutions. Dental bonding can achieve results that are similar to veneers, and can be performed to help patients lacking sufficient enamel for veneers.

Expectations

It is very important for patients to have realistic expectations about what any given cosmetic dentistry procedure can do for them. Our veneers are known for providing outstanding results, but they may not be the best choice to provide the results you need. For example, if you want to enhance a tooth that has suffered significant damage, a dental crown may be a better choice.

Dr. Buono Has Personal Experience Receiving Porcelain Veneers

/

Dr. Buono not only has over 25 years of dentistry experience along with affiliations with the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, but he has also received porcelain veneers. Being on the other end of treatment, Dr. Buono can offer a unique perspective on veneer placement from not only a doctor's vantage point, but a patient's.

Comparing Veneers to Dental Bonding

Veneers and dental bonding are frequently confused with each other because bonding is often referred to as “composite resin veneers.”

Dr. Buono offers both of these procedures, each of which can conceal various aesthetic flaws. While they achieve similar results, there are some key differences. For example, bonding (a process of applying tooth-colored resin to a tooth) is considered reversible, while porcelain veneers are not. On the other hand, veneers look more realistic than bonding.

Dental bonding can also be completed in a single appointment for faster results. However, bonding lasts approximately half as long as veneers. In many cases, bonding is an excellent way for a patient to experience the benefits of an enhanced smile and decide whether they would eventually like to invest in porcelain veneers. During a consultation, Dr. Buono can help you explore both of these options.

We Also Offer:

While our porcelain veneer procedure is accomplished with minimally invasive cosmetic techniques for natural results, we also offer other aesthetic tooth replacement techniques that are even less invasive.
Lumineers

Lumineers

Lumineers® is an appealing, less-invasive alternative to traditional porcelain veneers. Commonly referred to as minimal-prep veneers, Lumineers produce results similar to traditional veneers without removing enamel. Because Lumineers don’t require extensive changes to the natural tooth, they are also reversible, making them a welcomed option for patients who are reluctant to make a permanent change. Finally, Lumineers are natural-looking and long-lasting, with results lasting up to 20 years.

Snap-On Smile

Snap-On Smile

The Snap-On Smile® is another minimally-invasive alternative to porcelain veneers. This custom-fit tray literally “snaps on” over a patient’s natural teeth, without the need for drilling or bonding. It can also be removed at any time, without the need for a dental appointment. The Snap-On Smile is an excellent treatment option for patients who desire the look of porcelain veneers, but cannot afford extensive treatment.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The cost of veneers will vary from patient to patient depending on the number of veneers placed, preparatory procedures needed, and the type of veneers. During your free consultation, Dr. Buono can discuss your options and find a solution that meets your smile needs.
